Hi, guys! Today I want to tell you about my Pirates of the Caribbean Captain Jack Sparrow wig that I made from scratch. That means I made each dreadlock, all of the beads on the hair piece, everything. Even the base of the wig itself was made by me...I just want to quickly thank anyone who comments; that's great. So, yeah, let's get on with it...
Basically, what I made all of the dreads out of was jumbo braid 100% synthetic fiber (0:51), which I wasn't planning on getting. But when it came, it was synthetic even though I ordered 100% human hair; that's what it said on the (order) thing. I ordered 8 packages of it and I needed the hair ASAP to make my wig for dance recital. So I couldn't really return them and get human hair, so I just dealt with it. The downside to having 100% synthetic hair is that the hair is kind of shiny. You'll see what I mean in a minute...
What I made all of the beads out of was air-dry clay by Crayola - I think it costs $5 for a container of it. Yeah, that's what I made the beads out of...Then painted them.
The bandanna was just a swatch of material that I got...I wrapped some string and stuff around some of the dreadlocks...There's a braid in the back of the wig (2:20); I wrapped a tie on the braid to hold it. There are more dreadlocks underneath the braid...And the wig is shiny because (like I said) it's synthetic hair. It kind of sucks to have it shiny like that...
It's got a ponytail/pigtail thingy (2:59). Attached to it is a sailing needle bone thingy I made from a stick. I just carved a stick and tied it onto the ponytail, and it stays on pretty nicely...
The inside cap of my wig I made out of cloth material and elastic. I just hand-sewed the dreads right on to the cap, and this is what I was left with: a pretty nice-looking wig (3:27)...When you look at it in more light, you see that the dreadlocks are not really black; they're actually dark brown (3:59)...So, there it is: the Pirates of the Caribbean Captain Jack Sparrow hairpiece that I made...
About the Crafter: Sarah and her sisters are big Johnny Depp fans. For their cosplay, they
recreate costumes and props from his movies, as well as those from other cinema. But not scissorhands - 'cause those things really, really hurt y'all...
